Hermigua - Playa Santiago - Alajeró - Chipude - El Cercado - Las Hayas - Hermigua
A route that takes us through the landscapes of gentle hills towards the villages of the south of the island.

This time we will discover Hermigua from the heights, towards the centre of the island.

Entering Garajonay National Park from Hermigua

The road that links Hermigua with Garajonay offers an abundance of landscapes and viewpoints to enjoy the unhurried ascent.

La Meseta

One of the official routes of the National Park, a short walk between streams and trees.

Playa Santiago, a traditional fishing village that is now one of the main tourist centres of La Gomera thanks to its sunny weather.

The beach

Playa Santiago does not have much to offer the visitor in terms of architecture, most of its buildings are contemporary. Its beachfront offers a certain charm, especially in the vicinity of the fishing port.

Gomera Jewels

You don't have to be a jewelry store fan to visit this restored warehouse with a certain hippie charm.

Where to eat:

In front of the beach in its "wildest" area, an authentic beach bar, La Chalana.

Alajeró, Chipude and El Cercado. Three municipalities that have in common their location, at the top of the southern hills. They are small and charming villages gathered around their square and church.

Alajeró

Next to its Church of San Salvador, and in front of the square, we can see the Mountain of Calvary or Tagaragunche, where the aborigines practiced cattle sacrifice to their deities.

Where to eat:

Casa Efigenia in Las Hayas, a classic where they offer simple food for hikers.

La Fortaleza

A quasi-inaccessible plateau, it was a place of aboriginal worship and also of resistance to the Castilian domination.

Las Loceras

In El Cercado we find the Interpretation Centre of the aboriginal ceramics of La Gomera.

We now return to the Central road towards Hermigua. We will drive by some emblematic points that deserve stopping the car and walking for a while. We especially recommend entering through El Cedro to tour what is considered the heart of Garajonay National Park.
